This article looked at the types of cars that various CEO's drove and then it compared them to their management styles and relates it to some of their traits. "Early in my career I learned to maintain plant and equipment," he says. He refuses to trade in the truck, and hopes that reinforces to his 2,000 employees in 31 states his commitment to frugal resource management."" This gives light to the fact that skills, traits, and values used in younger years of CEO's can transfer to the later years as they progress up the ladder and need more leadership skills.
It also conveys to the employees of the company what the CEO stands for, whether he drives a Eco-friendly car and promotes stability within his company to CEO's that drive flashy sports car that show the employees the CEO is at the top and he runs the company his way. The Expensive cars could be looked as a motivating factor to their employees to show what is possible with their company. It is interesting because most people think of Executives as driving black Mercedez but the color and make will say a lot about the Executive especially when they can drive any car they wanted.

I agree that the car a CEO drives can say alot about them as a person, and how they are going to operate a business. I think that it is impressive that Thayer is driving a beater truck when he can afford any car he wants. This does show the employees that he is frugle and doesnt take for granted what he does have.
ReplyDeleteOther characteristics a car might divulge about a CEO is the number of cars they have, if they have a lot of expensive cars their employees may feel that they are being over paid and maybe being arrogant. If a CEO is driving an older car though perhaps their employees with think that they are not as professional as they should be. It may cause the employees to look down on the CEO because of that.
Some other perks that CEOs have that may motivate their employees are money to buy expensive clothes, coach pursed, tiffany's jewelry, expensive shoes, and many other name brand items. Also many CEOs can afford exotic trips that their employees may not be able to afford. The get many vacation days and basically get to set their own schedules. These are all things that may make the employees want to step up to the plate and do their best.
